About the Artist

Born in 1942 in Burugupalli, Andhra Pradesh, T. Vaikuntam completed a diploma in Painting at the College of Fine Arts and Architecture, Hyderabad, in 1970 and in 1972 he completed another diploma in Painting and Printmaking from the Faculty of Fine Arts at Maharaja Sayajirao University, Baroda. With luminous colors and sinuous lines, veteran artist Tohta Vaikuntam has always depicted the lives of the people of his birthplace, capturing the rural life and its intrinsic vibrancy particularly the lives of the womenfolk. Men and women, ornate with traditional jewelry and heavy make-up, crowd his works. The artist's childhood fascination with the traveling theater, the actors, and the kind of garish make-up they applied to sink in the character they played, later inspired him to develop his distinct artistic style. His fascination with the primary colors turns his canvases into a cascade of illuminating hues. The artist has won many awards, including the National Award for art direction in the movie Daasi in the late 1980s and the National Award for painting in 1993. Vaikuntam lives and works in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh.

The glass is protected by special tape for safety during transport. The frame is then sandwiched between foam for cushioning, wrapped in a corrugated sheet, and shrink-wrapped. We do professional packing to ensure the product reaches you safely.

  • Keep your prints out of direct sunlight or extreme weather conditions
  • Do not lean anything against the surface of a canvas
  • Dust your artworks with a clean, soft rag occasionally to prevent dust build-up. Don't use cleaning products or water
  • Hang your artworks away from the bustling and possibly messy areas
  • For framed works with glass or acrylic, use a soft white cloth and for paintings with heavy texture or fragile surfaces, a soft white brush is better. A new, unused make-up brush would also do the trick
