British Residency, Hyderabad - Print

A vast villa, closely resembling the White House in Washington, D.C., The Residency lay in a garden just over the River Musi from the old city. An architectural marvel designed by Lieutenant Samuel Russell of the Madras Engineers,
The building is outstanding in its own right: a grand mansion built in the European neo-classical style. It was intended to signify the British's power, wealth, and grandeur, and in this sense, the building outlasted the colonial administration which built it. It was commissioned by the Hyderabadi Resident, James Kirkpatrick, around 1803.
The complex was later converted into a women's College, with this building being made into a museum.
