DESCRIPTION
The Chamundeshwari Temple on Chamundi Hill, Mysore is a quadrangular structure built in Dravidian style. The temple consists of an impressive seven-tier tower known as ?gopuram? or ?gopura? and in equally imposing entrance which is known as ?dwara?. Apart from these, the temple also comprises Navrang Hall,
Antharala Mantapa and Prakara as well as a small tower atop the sanctum sanctorum called ?vimana?.
The original shrine is believed to have been built in the 12th century by Hoysala rulers while its tower was probably built by the Vijayanagar rulers of the 17th century.
