DESCRIPTION
This iconic Bundi School piece features Barahmasa. In the image, Krishna and Radha can be seen enjoying some music in the month of Magha (January to February). This is stated very clearly in the wording at the top. Magha may begin at this time of year on either the new moon or the full moon. In Hindu tradition, "Magha" refers to the eleventh month of the lunar calendar. Traditional techniques and vibrant colors were used to make this painting in the Bundi Marwar region. In this image, the Rajasthani miniature painting style is complemented by lovely architecture. A musician is playing in front of Radha as she sits on the top floor beneath a red canopy. An attendant woman is holding a fan. Along with a group of musicians who are singing and playing instruments like the Rudra veena, Krishna is also seated on the lower level under the canopy. Two male attendants are also around, right behind him. Despite being musicians, each figure wears very ornamental, vibrant clothing with traditional patterns. The miniature painting is covered by a thick red border and a slightly thinner black outline.
