This image depicts the north side of Calcutta's wide open space, known as the Maidan, which is bounded by Chowringhee Road.The Maidan is flanked by the city's major public buildings, including the Government House, which is located on the far left behind the Ochterlony Monument, now known as the Shahid Minar.
