DESCRIPTION
The Senate House is the administrative building of the University of Madras. Located at the Marina, which was formerly Nawab of Arcot's artillery park, the Senate Hall was one of the finest colonial buildings in Chennai, completed in 1879. The building is considered one of India's best and oldest examples of Indo-Saracenic architecture.
The great hall of the Senate House is of immense height and proportions and is considered to be the finest of its kind in India. The unique interior of the building includes stained-glass windows, rare fresco paintings, intricate murals and painted panels.
