DESCRIPTION
The Falaknuma was conceived and created by Sir Vicar-Ul-Umra, the Prime Minister of the sixth Nizam. In Urdu, 'Falak' means sky, and 'Numa' means like, so Falaknuma is literally 'like the sky' and lyrically 'star of heaven'.
The palace was built in the shape of a scorpion with two stings spread out as wings in the north. The main building occupies the middle part, and the kitchen, Gol Bangla, Zenana Mehal, and harem quarters stretch to the south.
The Nizam used the palace as a guest house for the royal guests visiting the kingdom of Hyderabad.
The beauty of the Falaknuma palace, perched atop a 2,000-feet-high hill, is accentuated by the wonderful vistas. The approach to the Falaknuma is through a winding driveway that leads to a grand gateway. A horse carriage (buggy) ferries guests on a winding road lined with greenery to the palace.
Tiered wings flank the central arched structure of the gate with decorative arches and doors along the ground floor.
Falaknuma Palace is a famous luxury heritage hotel of Hyderabad spread over 32 acres.

About the Artist
Lala Deen Dayal (1844 - 1905) popularly known as Raja Deen Dayal was born at Sardhana near Meerut in Uttar Pradesh in a Jain jewelers family. He studied engineering at Thompson Civil Engineering College, Roorkee after which he joined the public works department Indore as a head estimator and draftsman.
His photographic career began in the 1870's, when he accompanied Sir Lepel Griffin on his Central India tour during which he photographed Gwalior, Khajuraho, and other Central India sites.
He became the court photographer to the sixth Nizam of Hyderabad, Mahbub Ali Khan, Asif Jah VI, who awarded him the title Raja Bahadur Musavvir Jung Bahadur, and he was appointed as the photographer to the Viceroy of India in 1885.
He received the Royal Warrant from Queen Victoria in 1897. He won many awards in exhibitions in India and abroad, notably the World Colombian Commission in 1893 in the USA.
