About the Artist
Prabhakar Kolte was born in 1946, in a village called Nerurpar of District Ratnagiri in Maharashtra. Kolte received his Diploma from Sir J.J. School of Art, Mumbai in 1968 where he later also taught between 1972 and 1984. His early works show strong influence of the Swiss artist Paul Klee where canvases were covered with different forms that were layered over a dominant color.
Kolte has had multiple solo exhibitions and has also participated in many group exhibitions throughout India and abroad. The artist as many awards to his credits including ?Walter Lang hammer Award? by Indo-German Cultural Society, Mumbai, 1978, ?Kavi Kusuma raj Award? and ?Rup Dhar ? Award? for contribution in art of painting, by the Bombay Art Society, in 2010, ?Doctorate? for his contribution in the field of art, by Gwalior University, 2015; ?Durga Bhagwat Award? for his Book ?From Art to Art ? a compilation of various articles on art, in 2010.
He also got Scholarship as Researcher by Govt. of India in 1982-84 along with British Council?s Visitorship to England in 1986.
