DESCRIPTION
Purana Pul, or the Old Bridge, was built over the River Musi in 1578 to connect Golconda and Hyderabad. Legend has it that Prince Mohammed Quli Qutb Shah fell in love with a Hindu woman named Bhagmati, who used to live on the other side of the Musi. His father Sultan Ibrahim Quli Qutb Shah made the bridge so that the young prince could cross the river safely and meet his lover. For this reason, the bridge is also often called ?Pyar-ana Pul? or ?On Love Bridge? in English.
Purana Pul was the first bridge constructed in Hyderabad, and is amongst the oldest in South India. It has 22 arches and is 600 feet long. The bridge is now defunct, and is used as a vegetable market, but it remains one of the oldest landmarks of Hyderabad.

About the Art form
Albumen prints are a variety of photographic paper print in which a finely divided silver and gold image is dispersed in a matrix of egg white. Such prints constitute by far the largest category of objects in 19th century photographic collections. The albumen print became popular because it produced a rich sharp image. The process involves coating a sheet of paper with albumen (egg white), making the paper's surface glossy and smooth. It is then coated in a solution of silver nitrate.
Provenance
The image on the clock is inspired by vintage albumen print from the Prshant Lahoti Collection, part of Kalakriti Archives, Hyderabad, a private archives of historical maps, photographs and popular prints of Indian Sub-continent.
