DESCRIPTION
This plate is inspired by an opaque watercolour painting of Vishnu as Venkatachalapati, the Lord of the Venkata Hill (Tirumala). He is depicted alongside his consorts, Alarmelumangai (Padmavati) and Bhudevi, each standing on separate stepped pedestals.
Vishnu stands in samabhanga, richly clad and bejeweled, holding the chakra (discus) in his upper right hand and the shankha (conch) in his upper left. His lower right hand is in varada mudra, and his lower left rests on his hip. A massive floral garland drapes behind his shoulders, reaching to his knees. His size is imposing, dwarfing his consorts, who both gaze at him while holding flowers and wearing garlands.
Devotees seek his blessings for prosperity, the fulfillment of desires, and spiritual growth.
