DESCRIPTION
This plate is inspired by an opaque watercolour painting, also known as a Gouache painting, on paper. It depicts Lakshmi being lustrated by two elephants floating in mid-air, with their feet resting on clouds.
In the painting, Lakshmi sits in padmasana on a throne, which is supported by a large bolster. A lotus emerges from the edge of the page, supporting her throne and spreading its petals over the seat, symbolizing her association with water and fertility.
She is depicted carrying a lotus in her upper hands, while her lower right hand is in abhaya mudra, symbolizing protection, and her lower left hand is in varada mudra, symbolizing boon-bestowing.
Lakshmi is revered for her divine grace and multifaceted nature, making her a beloved figure associated with prosperity and well-being.
